Waste Heat Becomes a Product

Projection: The IEA and DOE-LBNL expect substantial data-center electricity growth, increasing the importance of how energy enters and leaves a campus. Where geography permits, recoverable heat may serve district, industrial, greenhouse, or desalination uses. The forecast is site-specific and fails wherever transport, temperature, seasonality, or economics erase the usable value.

Why this idea is here

What the evidence establishes.

The IEA models datacenter electricity demand, projects the energy sources needed to supply it, and analyzes implications for security, emissions, innovation, and affordability; DOE and LBNL project substantial U.S. datacenter load growth through 2028 and describe power-system planning measures for that growth. These are source-backed premises for this projection; they do not by themselves prove broad adoption or the eventual outcome.
