Sovereign Regional Inference Clouds
Projection: The IEA frames data-center electricity as a security, affordability, and infrastructure issue; Qualcomm proposes disaggregated, high-bandwidth inference systems. Countries and regulated industries may respond with regional inference clouds for residency and resilience. The thesis requires sustained local capacity that can meet workload economics, not merely sovereign announcements or reserved land.
Why this idea is here
What the evidence establishes.
The IEA models datacenter electricity demand, projects the energy sources needed to supply it, and analyzes implications for security, emissions, innovation, and affordability; Qualcomm announces agentic CPUs, near-memory high-bandwidth compute, disaggregated inference, liquid-cooled racks, and claimed improvements in bandwidth per watt. These are source-backed premises for this projection; they do not by themselves prove broad adoption or the eventual outcome.
